A 6.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Ludian County of Zhaotong City in Yunnan on August 3rd at 1630. It has been the strongest earhquake in Yunnan province in 18 years. According to China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, untill today the earthquake has killed 398 people and left over 2,000 injured.

Soon after the earthquake, Fosun Group immediately convened an emergency meeting and on August 4 it mobilized Fosun Pharma and its subsidiaries Yao Pharma and Guilin Pharma through “Fosun Public Welfare Foundation” to arrange the first batch of RMB2 million worth of disaster relief materials, and delivered promptly to the disaster relief site through Yunan Department of Civil Affairs. Such disaster relief medicines are badly needed in the disaster-hit area, including dirithromycin, cefmetazole, josamycin tablets, roxithromycin tablets, Vitamin E soft capsules and levamisole hydrochloride tablets.

Mr. Guo Guangchang, Chairman of Fosun Group, noted that Fosun would pay close attention to the relief efforts and would further provide necessary assistance as needed.

Fosun Group has for years committed itself to fulfilling its responsibilities as a corporate citizen and has responded quickly by mobilizing resources and offering relief to disaster areas including Wenchuan, Yushu, Zhouq, Ya'an and Hainan, practising its corporate philosophy of “self-improvement, teamwork, performance and contribution to society”. It has donated a total of more than RMB600 million since its inception.
